How To Comment

There are two ways that you can comment on the entries in this journal. Blow you will find a listing of these two ways along with a guide which includes images for those of you who may need a more visual explanation.

To leave a comment in this journal (or any of my other journals):

1. You can fill out the form, indicating your name, e-mail address, URL, and comment.

2. You can log in with your TypeKey account.

Please note that if you use a RSS reader (such as Live Journal) to read my entries you should not leave comments at Live Journal proper. Any comments left at Live Journal proper will not be read by me. Each entry from my journal that is picked up by any RSS reader (including Live Journal) contains a link which is the URL of that individual entry (for example, my first entry has a URL of http://www.mazikeen.com/blog/othershore/2008/01/should_auld_acquaintance_be_fo.html
). You should click on this link to be brought to the individual entry and then leave a comment there. If this is not clear, please see below for a walk through with images.

When you first arrive at my journal this is what you will see:

When you scroll down past the title image you will find the content of the journal:

Each entry contains the date, a title, my location when writing the entry, my mood while writing the entry, what I was listening to while writing the entry, a book I am currently reading, and all of this is followed by the content of the entry. At the end of the entry is a bar and this is followed by who wrote the entry (me), at what time the entry was posted, a link to the individual entry (called the Permalink), a link prompting you to leave comments (Click here to leave comments), a listing for Trackbacks made to the entry (TrackBacks), as well as the opportunity to announce the entry to Digg It, del.icio.us, or Technorati if you so desire.

To leave a comment you can click on either the Permalink or the Click here to leave comments option:

Once you have clicked on either of these links you will be taken to the individual page for the entry you wish to comment on:

You can tell that this is the individual entry due to three things. The first is that the URL will contain all or part of the entry's title and the second is that title showing up on your browser window should say "Other Shore : Journal of Mazi Sexton : Individual Entries":

Scrolling down will reveal the third way to determine that you are on an individual entry page as only one entry will be available:

Under the entry you will find the available options for leaving a comment:

You can leave a comment by logging in with your TypeKey account:

Or you can fill out the available form:

To leave a comment with your TypeKey account click on the "sign in" link:

This will take you to the TypeKey sign in page:

Here you can log in with your TypeKey user information:

Or you can create a TypeKey account by following TypeKey's prompts:

Once you have logged into TypeKey it will automatically take you back to the individual entry:

Scroll down to the entry and you will see that you have been logged in:

Now you can put your URL in (optional) and enter your comment:

Once you have finished creating your comment you can choose to preview or post:

If you choose preview you will be taken to a preview page. You can tell it is a preview page because the browser title should say "Other Shore : Journal of mazi Sexton : Comment Preview":

and when you scroll down you will find a preview of your message:

If you like the way your message looks choose post (or you can preview it again and then hit post):

Once you have clicked post you will be taken to the comment pending page. This page's browser title reads "Other Shore : Journal of Mazi Sexton : Comment Pending":

And when you scroll down you will find the following:

Now your comment is waiting for me to approve it. Once I have approved it the comment will appear on the individual entry page. Please note that if I reply to a comment you leave you will not be sent notification, you will need to come back to read any responses left.

If you do not have a TypeKey account or do not want one you can leave a comment simply by filling out the comment form:

Now you may leave your Name, E-mail address (optional), URL (optional), and/or Comment:

Once you have finished creating your comment you can choose to preview or post:

All other steps are the same as for leaving a comment with a TypeKey account.

Once you have left a comment
it will be waiting for me to approve it. Once I have approved it the comment will appear on the individual entry page. Please note that if I reply to a comment you leave you will not be sent notification, you will need to come back to read any responses left.

If you are reading my journal from an RSS feed reader such as Live Journal you will not to come to the individual entry before you can comment. You should not leave comments at the reader itself because I will never see them. If you are using Live Journal to read my entries it should look something like this (this was taken from a "friends page", your version will vary depending on the LJ layout you have chosen):

You will notice that the URL for that particular journal entry is what starts off the entry.
Simply click on URL to be taken to the entry on my journal:

The steps for leaving a comment from this point may be found by clicking here.

And now you know how to leave a comment!
