You are probably not aware that Japan usually has a negative birth rate (I heard a rumor that they have finally broken even). This means that Japan has more people dying from old age than are being born to replace them. This is a bad thing because as the country ages there will be less people in the workforce to take care of those aging and to run the country itself.

With Japan's draconian approach to immigration (re: Japan for the Japanese, everyone else can visit but they must leave. . . eventually) this does not bode well for the survival of the country.

If you hang around Japan long enough you may find this birth rate to actually be a "good thing". For example, there has been a seatbelt law in-acted in Japan fairly recently (recently as within the past few years). And yet, parents can be seen driving a la Britney Spears with small infants and toddlers on their laps.

Toddlers will also sit in the font passenger seat with no seatbelt and they are also allowed to roam around the back seats with no seatbelt or car seats.

Just yesterday we went to a store and found that the car next to us was empty. . . except for the sleeping baby someone had left in it while they went into the store. Yes, they left an infant alone in the car while they went shopping.

The Japanese see nothing wrong with either of these things, at least not in the area I live in. I will not even bother to get into how ill-behaved the children are, how the school system works to kill individuality and create drones, and the high suicide rate Japan has.

I am not saying other countries are not guilty as well, Thailand does have its parents who slip small children into the front baskets of scooters while they zip around town. I suppose, considering Japan considers itself a "first world country" and number two behind the USA I expect better. But the fact is, even with its shining cities and technology, Japan is no better than Thailand. In fact, in many ways Thailand is better off than Japan and they just had a military coup!

Japan is not all bad, I would rather live here than the USA, but common sense is not a common thing here.
